C’s non-candy Easter basket

Non_Candy_Easter_IdeasOne of my most vivid Easter memories is eating obscene amounts of Cadbury Creme Eggs, and by eating I mean sucking out the cream and throwing away the chocolate shells (GROSS, right?). Anyhoo, that is not really a tradition I want to instill in C at her tender ageso I’m kicking off her first Easter basket experience with a non-candy array of goodies I think she is going to love. There is nothing earth-shattering going on here, but I thought I would share my plans with you in case you need some last-minute inspiration for your own kiddos! Here’s the scoop:

  • Easter-themed plush toy. When C and I were at Target shopping for Easter treats, we came across the adorable orange and pink bunny in her basket. She fell in love immediately, and I had to pry it out of her grasp to pay for it. I’m so excited for her to reunite with her little friend on Sunday!
  • Egg creatures. C has always loved to carry little things around, and now she is at the stage where she is really into animals and creatures. Whether it’s Yo Gabba Gabba!, or the animals/babies in her board books, she loves pointing at her friends and having us explain who they are. I have a feeling she is going to be a big fan of the animal eggs in her basket.
  • Egg-shaped chalk. ”Drawing” is also a new skill of C’s, and this sidewalk chalk is adorable. Done and done!
  • Summer essentials. There are really only 2 seasons in Texas — winter and summer — and winter lasts about a week . Though we’re in the “spring” version of summer right now, I can feel the heat creeping up on us, and C needs to be prepared for pool time. Also, we’re going to visit family in California next week (yay!), and C also could use some supplies for her first encounter with the beach. Conclusion = a sweet floppy hat and cover-up from Old Navy

More non-candy Easter basket ideas: C’s sweet Godmother got her an Easter basket filled with empty plastic eggs, a small coin purse, a pinwheel and some bubbles this year. C LOVED it, and has been carrying it around and taking the eggs in and out ever since. She also has learned to say “bubble” and is beyond thrilled when we blow bubbles together. Super awesome gifts!

Confetti eggs - ready and waiting for toddler hands!

Though not in her Easter basket, it wouldn’t be that time of year without Cascarones (confetti eggs) here in the ATX.  I got a carton of them for C to destroy on Sunday, and we may even prank some of our family members with them. Watch out, guys!

What is your Easter basket strategy for the kiddos this year? Let me know what you put in yours in the comments!

And of course, Happy Easter to you and yours!
